Cultural Exchange Program

Russians is little known about Japan. This country is famous for its high technologies, innovations, unique culture and nature. I had a unique opportunity to see Japan.
Our program was devoted to sustainable development and management of biosphere reserves. Studying international experience is an important part of my scientific work.
The program lasted 22 days. On the first day we moved into the International House of the Kanazawa University campus. The International House was very comfortable, much better than Russian 🙂
In the following days we had lectures on the climate, geology and natural landscapes of the Hokuriku region, as well as lessons of the Japanese language and many excursions. We spent free time talking with Japanese students. They showed us the campus, and also Kanazawa herself.
Particular attention should be paid to excursions. I was impressed by excursions to water treatment facilities and an incineration plant. The experience of Japan should be adopted also by Russia. Excursions to the Gokayama were also interesting. I got acquainted with traditional types of sustainable land use.
Then we went to Hakusan Biosphere Reserve, where I also visited various species of biosphere reserves. The most unexpected event was the meeting with the mayor of city Hakusan. At the end of the program, I lived for five days in the village of Shiramine, located in the transit zone of the biosphere reserve.
We made some interesting excursions, took part in the Hakusan Mountain Festival, and talked with the locals. In general, this program allowed me to learn more about Japan, its culture and inhabitants, as well as how it seeks to achieve sustainable development and maintain its traditions.
