Geological Japan

Danilov Yaroslav

Geological Faculty of Moscow State University

Basic Science Program

This summer I had a very exciting experience of communication with professors of geology from another, very different country.

In my home university in Russia I’m studying mid-ocean ridges and modeling them. In Kanazawa University I spent two weeks doing research on my topic. Under leadership of Professor Tomoaki Morishita and Professor Umino Susumu I studied various geophysical maps and geochemical data and compiled a database. I also had some very productive discussions about the modeling results from my home University.

Finally I got acquainted with several tectonophysical and geochemical laboratories and with results of their work and also took part in one-day educational practice along the sea coast in Noto peninsula. During the practice, I learned something about the geological history of the Japanese island, and also looked at various geological monuments and learned about the process of their formation.

So, thank you Japan for new experience and new ideas for my scientific work!
