My Experience at a Laboratory in Kazan Federal University

Advanced Science and Technology Program
Kazan Federal University
I stayed in Digital Media Lab in Kazan Federal University for several days.
Then I developed application program by using unity and OpenCV to recognize our face.
Unity is a platform to develop interactive contents such as games, VRs, ARs. OpenCV is a software library for computer vision.
Since my major is human computer interaction in hardware device layer, I am not used to using unity. However, I was trying to use it in master thesis.
Therefore, it was good for me to stay in Digital Media Lab and discuss with students about such technologies.
It was my first time to stay in foreign laboratory and I feel there are common and different points.
The common points are that each student has his/her own research theme and they do researches for their undergraduate thesis or graduate thesis, and there are a relaxing space with sofa and table in the lab and students talk, eat snacks, and drink tea for free time.
Otherwise the different point are that although they are students but they join some projects to earn money for laboratory. In Japan and my lab, to find research funding is a professor's task and students often do not have to worry about money.
I was also surprised that students in KFU have high skills and knowledge, so I was engaged from them. I want to improve my skills as theirs.
Besides, almost every day after work, they took us Japanese students to restaurants and famous places in Kazan. Then they gave us explanations about traditional foods, history, and culture of Kazan.
Every talk was interesting and I see them as treasures from Russian friends.
