Cultural Exchange Program

Kazan State University, Saint-Petersburg State University

We went to Moscow, Kazan and Saint Petersburg in Russian for three weeks in order to study about coexistence of culture, history, art, nature and people.

First, We went to Moscow. The most impressing place was Kremlin and Red Square, Moscow . I heard that old royal family had lived in this place and Saint Basil’s Cathedral had been constructed for memorizing domination of Kazan. Maintained cityscapes and flower beds were very developed and spectacular. Also, We visited Losiny Ostrov National Park in Moscow. This national Park protect a lot of animals such as Alces alces and boar. In this area, nature is artificially maintained. For example, hunting is prohibited and grasses for herbivore are given by people in winter. The area which people can enter are determined. There are some rules for keeping abundant nature. As stated above, Moscow has both developed city and a lot of nature.

Next, we went to Kazan. The main program in Kazan was interaction with Kazan University students. We did variety of exercises, dance, talk together. Although it was difficult to understand each other through languages, we were able to understand through gestures and smiles. I thought the most important thing is a positive attitude to understand a partner in front of me. The most impressing place in Kazan was Kazan Kremlin. Kazan Kremlin is a unique place which have both a cathedral for Christianity and a mosque for Islam. Kazan Kremlin was lit up in the night and this was so sacred.

Finally, we went to Saint Petersburg. I saw a lot of artistic architectures, pictures, statues, and so on. The most impressive place was Hermitage Museum. This museum was so spacious and had numerous arts collected from various countries for many years. It is emotive to look at pictures and rooms indicating the situation at that time. Also, I saw a lot of cathedral of Islam. In these cathedral, unique pictures were drawn on the ceiling and walls. These were so sacred. Saint Petersburg was artistic city like European. Also, I attended the Mendeleev conference which was a scientfic conference memorizing the 150th anniversary of the birth of Mendeleev. Giving our study and exchanging various ideas with foreign people was a valueble experience.

Through this program, I saw a lot of historical symbols, abundant nature, artistic works and got priceless memories. In future, I would like to more study the influence of these to people’ lives and make use of the experience of this program for interaction with culture, nature, art, people.
