Delegates of Kanazawa University visited V.I.Il'ichev Pacific Oceanological Institute (POI) and Far East Federal University (FEFU) from Sep.8 to 21. It was unforgettable experience.
At POI, we did experiment using sea water samples collected from Okhotsk Sea to measure several radionuclide concentrations. The result will be very useful because it was the first attempt of measuring radionuclide on that sea area.
At FEFU, we measure amount of organic matter in soil. Some operations of experiment was same as we did in Japan, so my experience in japan was very helpful.
Vladivostok is known as “Europe closest to Japan” for Japanese people. On weekend, we went to urban area of Vladivostok. As you can see from the picture, the landscape was very beautiful.
Through this study abroad, I felt English was not all round. Some facilities, local people can’t speak English, so it was difficult to communicate with. In such case, speaking only a few Russian words was more useful than accurate English. Of course, learning English is important, but I think it is more important to try to understand the culture of others.
Vladivostok is a beautiful and attractive city. I hope many students will visit Vladivostok actually.
