What I felt in Russia
Geki Watanabe
Division of Material Chemistry, Kanazawa University
Basic Science Program
Irkutsk State University - Chemistry Faculty
I joined physical chemistry laboratory in Irkutsk State University for 2 weeks.
On the first day, my supervisor taught me what they were doing in the laboratory. After the second day, I learned about analysis of metal (Pd) complex as catalysts by using IR, and synthesis of Pd complex. Considering and discussing the experimental results with laboratory members was a great learning experience.
I felt Russians were very kind because I could get one-on-one guidance throughout my research activities even though they were busy. My major is organic chemistry, but I felt their research was attractive thanks to the lab member’s kind guidance.
Many of the experimental tools and devices in the lab were the same as in Japan, but I felt it was interesting that the operation was slightly different.
It was a short study abroad period, but I was also able to enjoy sightseeing, food and culture.
Night walking
Traditional Russian food
I had a lot of precious experiences through this study abroad.
